At the core of YHPAA’s mission is a commitment to supporting our community with a primary focus on enriching the lives of children through education. Since 2006, YHPAA members have participated in numerous educational events and volunteered with nonprofit organizations across central Texas.YHPAA is always interested in building new partnerships. If you represent a nonprofit organization or are a member that has a project in mind, please contact Nichole at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Key community partnerships:
Bridges to Education (BTE)
BTE began as a way for YHPAA members to connect with students over lunch and share their professional experiences. In 2010, YHPAA built a partnership with Webb Middle School and committed to follow a group of 40 sixth-grade students through their middle school experience. Now starting their 8th grade year, YHPAA members continue to meet monthly with students over lunch. Learn more about Bridges to Education here.
Feria Para Aprender (The Learning Fair)
YHPAA has been involved with Feria Para Aprender, the largest Spanish-language education fair in Central Texas, since its inception in 2007. YHPAA encourages more than 12,000 Spanish-speaking students and parents to sign a high school contract in which students commit to complete school by their graduation date. YHPAA also incorporates learning activities that encourage higher education. Learn more about Feria Para Aprender here.
CASA Travis County
YHPAA partners with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and encourages members take advantage of volunteer opportunities with the organization. In August, we hosted our first Monthly Meet Up that helped students aging out of the foster system learn about money management. In September, YHPA-Austin members will run the CASA SuperHero 5K and volunteer at registration. Learn more about CASA Austin here.
